That is the infamous one-wheel-peel, and it is why a capable-looking stock truck gets stuck on terrain it should walk over.
A locking differential mechanically ties both wheels on the axle together so they turn as one. Now the wheel with traction gets the power, and the truck climbs, crawls, and pulls out of situations that would strand an open diff. Pound for pound and dollar for dollar, a locker is the single biggest off-road traction upgrade you can make — bigger than tires, bigger than a lift kit. Most locker builds start with clearance from a lift before adding traction gear.
