Toyota Tundra Suspension Changed — So Did the Build

For fifteen years the Tundra was a simple, bulletproof leaf-sprung truck, and it lifted like one. Then the 2022 third generation arrived with a coil-sprung multi-link rear — and an available air rear — and everything about lifting it changed. A shop still treating the new Tundra like the old one is going to get it wrong.

On the leaf trucks, a clean lift is springs, shocks, and a rear pack. On the new coil-rear trucks, it is coil spacers or taller coils with corrected geometry, and on the air-rear trucks it is air-compatible parts and a ride-height recalibration. Our Tundra suspension builds use the right approach for your exact truck — and finish with an alignment either way.

Second gen or third, work truck or TRD Pro, every Tundra build starts the same: we confirm the rear setup, ask how you load and drive it, and spec the parts that belong together. We also build Tacoma builds for owners who want a midsize Toyota done right.

Tundra Lift Kit, Leveling Kit & Coilover Options

From a clean level to a 6-inch big-tire build, these are the four Tundra setups we run most. The first question is always which rear you have — leaf, coil, or air.

Most Popular

Tundra Leveling Kit

A front level kills the rake and clears a 33 without changing the ride much. The affordable, daily-friendly first move, and we still align it. See our leveling kit service for the full rundown. We also fit wheels and tires for the Tundra and front bumper and armor as part of the complete build.

Big Tire

Tundra Lift Kit, 3–6"

A full lift kit matched to your rear type — leaf pack or coil — with front components and geometry correction. The way to clear 35s with the ride and tracking intact. BDS has solid Tundra applications when you want one matched, warrantied package instead of piecing it together.

Tuned Ride

Tundra Coilover Upgrade

Adjustable coilovers from Fox, King, and ICON for ride-height adjustment and real off-road damping — the move for trucks carrying front armor or seeing high-speed dirt.

Air Ride

Coil & Air-Rear Builds (2022+)

The new coil-sprung and air-rear Tundras lift with coil spacers, taller coils, or air-compatible components plus recalibration — not blocks. We build the third gen the way its new rear demands.

Tundra Lift Fitment by Generation

The Tundra's two modern generations could not be more different under the bed. The rear suspension, the air option, and the electronics all change the parts list. Here is what actually determines how your Tundra gets built.

We confirm your rear setup first, verify clearance at full lock and droop, and align and recalibrate whatever the lift affects.

2nd Gen · 2007–2021

The bulletproof one. Independent front, leaf-sprung rear. Lifts with springs, a rear pack or add-a-leaf, and front components. Huge aftermarket and an easy, proven platform to build on a budget.

3rd Gen · 2022+

A clean-sheet truck with a coil-sprung multi-link rear and an available air rear. Lifts more like a Ram — coil spacers or taller coils, geometry correction, and recalibration on air trucks. Not a leaf-truck approach.

TRD Pro

The factory off-road trim comes with upgraded dampers and a higher stance. Already strong — owners add tires, armor, and a modest lift, plus coilover tuning to make the most of what Toyota set up.

What a Lifted Tundra Lift Kit Does Best

A built Tundra is a big, durable, comfortable truck that overlands, tows, and runs ranch roads for years. Here is where that capability tops out.

Handles Confidently

  • Highway and daily driving, fully retained
  • Ranch roads, leases, and maintained dirt
  • Overlanding and camp roads with a full load
  • Towing and payload within the truck's rating
  • Sand and high-speed dirt with the right coilovers
  • Moderate trails where the line is clear

Where It Reaches Its Limit

  • Tight, technical trails — it is a long, wide truck
  • Hardcore rock crawling needing huge articulation
  • Deep mud once weight works against the tires
  • Big-tire builds that skip gearing and feel sluggish
✓ The Honest Version

The Tundra is a do-everything full-size that overlands and tows beautifully and lasts forever. For tight technical rock, a shorter rig is happier — but for Texas leases, highway hauls, and long-haul reliability, a well-built Tundra is hard to beat.

How We Install Your Tundra Lift Kit

Every Tundra follows the same five-step path we use across the shop — the full build process covers the details.

01

Consult & Walk

We confirm leaf, coil, or air rear, walk the truck, and ask how you use it. No quote without it.

02

Spec & Quote

An itemized list for your exact generation and rear type — no leaf-truck parts on a coil truck.

03

Build & Fab

Level or lift install, rear pack or coil work, and any trimming done clean and in-house.

04

Dial & Align

Four-wheel alignment, ride-height recalibration on air trucks, and a road test.

05

Deliver & Follow-Up

Walkthrough, documentation, and a 500-mile re-torque and settle check.

Toyota Tundra Lift Kit Questions, Answered

Most Tundras run anywhere from a 2-inch level to a 6-inch lift. A level clears a 33 and kills the rake; a 3-inch suspension lift clears 33s and 34s with better off-road manners; a 6-inch bracket lift opens up 35s and up. We spec the height around the tire size, how you load it, and which generation you have.
Yes, significantly. The 2007 to 2021 Tundra has a leaf-sprung rear, so it lifts with blocks, add-a-leaf, or a new pack. The 2022-and-up third gen switched to a coil-sprung multi-link rear, with an air rear available, so it lifts more like a Ram with coil spacers or taller coils and a corrected geometry. The front is independent on both. We use the right parts for your generation.
A 2-inch level clears a 33-inch tire on most Tundras, and a 34 with the right wheel offset. 35s want a lift and some trimming. We confirm fitment for your exact generation, cab, and wheel before ordering so it does not rub at full lock.
A leveling kit is the affordable way to a level stance and a 33 for a daily driver. A full lift gives you more clearance, better off-road travel, and room for 35s. We point you to the right one based on the tire size you want and how you use the truck.
Yes. The new Tundra trims with rear air suspension need air-compatible components and ride-height recalibration, much like an air-equipped Ram, rather than spacers that the system will fight. If your Tundra has the air rear, tell us up front and we will spec it correctly.
Done right, no. Quality components, the correct geometry, and a four-wheel alignment keep it composed. Towing is mostly affected by tire size and gearing, so if you go to big tires we will talk about regearing. We factor your towing and payload into the spec before anything goes on.
