Rock Sliders & Rocker Protection in Houston, TX

Rock sliders protect the one part of your truck you cannot just bolt back on — the rockers and pinch seams. We install frame-mounted bolt-on and weld-on sliders that take the truck's full weight on a rock and double as a step at the curb.

Rock Sliders Protect the Part You Can't Bolt Back On

Your truck's rockers — the lower body and pinch seams below the doors — are structural sheet metal welded to the body. Dent them on a rock and there is no bolt-on replacement; you are looking at body work or living with the damage. That is the whole reason rock sliders exist: to take the hit so the rockers never do.

The catch is that most of what gets sold as side protection is not a slider at all. Nerf bars and running boards bolt to the body, look the part, and crumple the instant they touch a rock. A real rock slider mounts to the frame and is built to support the entire weight of the truck balanced on an obstacle. If it is bolted to sheet metal, it is a step, not a slider.

We install vehicle-specific and custom-fabricated sliders the right way — to the frame, at the correct height, tied in with your skid plates and bumpers as a complete armor package. We build rock sliders for the Jeep Wrangler, Toyota 4Runner, and most other trail rigs — bolt-on or weld-on depending on your frame and how hard you run it.

Bolt-On & Weld-On Rock Slider Options

Rock sliders and rock rails come in a few flavors depending on your frame, how hard you wheel, and whether you want them removable. These are the four we install most.

Removable

Bolt-On Rock Sliders

Mount to the frame using existing holes or clamp plates — strong, removable, and quicker to install. The right call for unibody rigs and modern trucks, and for owners who may want them off later. Done right, they take real abuse.

Strongest

Weld-On Rock Sliders

Welded directly to a body-on-frame rig for the strongest possible mount with no fasteners to loosen. The choice for hard rock use where you are putting the truck's full weight on the slider. Welded clean and sealed against corrosion.

Technical

Sliders with Kickout

An angled flare at the front pushes the body away from rocks and trees as you slide along an obstacle, protecting the front rocker and lower door. Great for tight, technical trails — we add it when your terrain calls for it.

Daily Step

Step-Style Rock Rails

Frame-mounted rails with a flat or grip top that protect the rockers and make a genuine step into a lifted cab. Real protection that earns its keep in the driveway — not a flimsy running board.

What Rock Sliders Do — and What They Don't

A good frame-mounted slider is one of the most useful pieces of armor on a wheeled rig. Knowing its job keeps you from buying a step that pretends to be one.

What They Do

  • Protect the rockers and pinch seams from rocks and ledges
  • Let the truck slide over obstacles instead of catching
  • Act as a pivot point on technical lines
  • Double as a step into a lifted cab and to the roof
  • Serve as a high-lift jack point when properly mounted
  • Take the truck's full weight without bending

What They Don't

  • Replace flimsy running boards meant only for looks
  • Add ground clearance — that is the lift kit's job
  • Protect the belly — that is what skid plates do
  • Hold up if mounted to body sheet metal instead of frame
✓ The Honest Version

If you wheel anything rocky, sliders are not optional — they are the difference between sliding off a ledge and folding a rocker. The off-road trails in Texas will make that clear fast. If you just want a step and never leave pavement, say so, and we will tell you honestly that a lighter rail is all you need.

Rock Slider Install Done Right

A slider is only as good as its mount. The plate can be perfect, but if it is hung off the wrong points or sits at the wrong height, it will not do its job — or worse, it will tear loose under load. Here is what separates a clean slider install from a liability.

We run proven brands and fabricate custom sliders in-house for vehicles without good options — but on a slider, the mounting and the welds matter more than the badge.

Frame Mounting

Every slider we install ties into the frame, never the body. Bolt-on through reinforced plates and factory points, or weld-on for the strongest mount. The goal is a slider that holds the whole truck on a rock without flexing the body.

Bolt-On vs Weld-On

Bolt-on stays removable and is ideal for unibody and modern trucks; weld-on is the ultimate strength for hard rock rigs. We match the method to your frame, how you wheel, and whether you want them off later.

Material & Finish

Quality steel tube and plate, welded clean and sealed or coated against Houston humidity. Kickouts, top plates, and grip surfaces added to your spec. Built to look right and survive years of Texas weather and trail abuse.

How We Install Your Rock Sliders

Every slider job follows the same five-step path we use across the shop — the full build process covers the details.

01

03

Mount & Weld

Frame mounting and welding done clean and in-house, set at the right height and sealed.

04

Check & Finish

Fasteners torqued, welds inspected, clearances and step height verified, finish protected.

05

Deliver & Follow-Up

Walkthrough, jack-point guidance, documentation, and a re-torque check after first use.

Rock Slider Questions, Answered

Everything that matters. Nerf bars and running boards bolt to the body for looks and a step, and they crush the moment they touch a rock. Rock sliders bolt or weld to the frame and are built to take the full weight of the truck on a rock without bending, protecting the rockers and pinch seams. If a bar is mounted to sheet metal, it is not a slider — it is a step that will fold up the first time you need it.
Both work when done right. Bolt-on sliders use the frame's existing holes or clamp plates and are removable and quicker to install — ideal for unibody and many modern trucks. Weld-on sliders are the strongest possible mount for hard rock use on a body-on-frame rig, with no chance of a bolt loosening. We recommend based on your frame, how hard you wheel, and whether you want them removable.
Only if they are designed and mounted for it. A properly frame-mounted slider is a great place to put a high-lift jack on the trail, which is one of their best features. A bolt-on with marginal mounting is not — jacking on it can tear the mounts. We will tell you straight whether the slider on your rig is rated to be jacked on and mount it accordingly.
Yes, and it is one of the everyday wins. On a lifted truck the sliders sit at a natural step height to get into the cab or reach the roof, so they earn their keep in the driveway as well as on the trail. We can add a flat top plate or grip surface if you want them more step-friendly without giving up rock protection.
There are vehicle-specific sliders for almost every popular truck, SUV, Jeep, and Bronco, and we fabricate custom sliders for anything without good off-the-shelf options. The key is a slider engineered for your exact frame so it mounts solid and protects the right area. Tell us what you drive and we will confirm the fit.
A kickout is an angled flare at the front of the slider that pushes the body away from rocks and trees as you slide along an obstacle, protecting the front of the rocker and the lower door. It is great for tight, technical trails but adds width and can catch on tight terrain, so we recommend it based on the trails you actually run.
